Corozal American Cemetery

More than 5,400 American veterans and others are interred at this cemetery in Panama, which ABMC assumed responsibility for in 1982.

Video Transcript:

Corozal American Cemetery is just outside Panama's capital, Panama City, and is located near the Panama Canal.
It's one of only two ABMC burial sites that still actively accepts and conducts burials.
Citizens of over 70 nations are buried here; among them are more than 5,000 Americans.
They were veterans of conflicts spanning the 19th through the 21st century.
Combat is not the only way the men and women of the U. S. Armed Forces have demonstrated courage and sacrifice in the service of their nation.
For seven years the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers worked on the construction of the Panama Canal – the greatest engineering feat of its age.
Many Americans – civilians and servicemembers alike – died during the construction of the Canal.
Yellow Fever and other tropical diseases took thousands of lives.
In 1914, this land was designated for use as a permanent cemetery.
In 1982, ABMC assumed responsibility over the site.
This memorial overlooking the graves symbolizes the bond between the United States and Panama …and the many ways that Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.
