Italian Man Who Fought with 82nd Honors Fallen

Sicily-Rome American Cemetery hosted a ceremony last week commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Allied landings at Anzio and Nettuno. In what’s become an annual tradition, Antonio Taurelli, an Italian who fought side by side with the 82nd Airborne Division during the war, sponsors the ceremony. Students from a local middle school sang the American and Italian national anthems, and read excerpts of letters from the servicemen. Elementary school students, who were also in attendance, watched as the older kids paid tribute to our fallen. Students laid a red rose at the headstone of every member of the 82nd Airborne buried at the cemetery. Taurelli, who purchases all of the roses,  also placed a wreath at the Brothers in Arms statue.
