In November 2016, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed the remains of an Unknown Soldier buried in Plot B Row 21 Grave 22 at Normandy American Cemetery with the belief that an identification could be made. Research and analysis were used to positively identify the remains as belonging to SSgt. Gerald L. Jacobsen, who served in 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Normandy American Cemetery.
