Captain Frederick was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 164, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 30, 1967, he was aircraft commander of a Boeing Sea Knight Cargo Helicopter (CH-46A) flying over Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, when it crashed killing him. His remains were recovered on August 3, 1992 and identified on June 3, 1993. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
