Lieutenant McCormick was a member of Attack Squadron 115, Carrier Air Wing 5 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS MIDWAY (CVA-41). On January 10, 1973, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) protecting B-25 bombers over North Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by a surface to air missile and crashed. His remains were recovered on August 4, 1993 and identified on November 11, 2003. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
