Sergeant First Class Hendrick was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. When his position was overrun on February 12, 1951, he was severely wounded by small arms fire and enemy bayonets, then taken Prisoner of War. He survived a 100 mile death march to Pyangyang, North Korea. He died as a prisoner on June 17, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
