Private First Class Berry was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On May 18, 1951, his company was overrun by Chinese forces near Hangye, South Korea. He was listed as Prisoner of War. In 1993, a former American prisoner of war informed the Berry family the he saw Private First Class Berry die of the wounds he received on May 18, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
