Corporal Shay was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action when he failed to return from a patrol in North Korea on January 21, 1953. He was presumed dead on January 22, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
