Sergeant Tonander was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 15, 1950 and returned to duty on October 1, 1950. He was seriously wounded again near Unsan, North Korea on November 2, 1950 and died of those wounds on November 4, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
