Private First Class Walczak was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on August 17, 1950. He was presumed dead on January 7, 1954. PFC Walczak's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. His remains have been recovered and identified.
