Sergeant First Class Chaney was a Light Weapons Infantryman with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 17, 1950 and returned to duty on October 18, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 28, 1950 and died while a prisoner on April 30, 1951. His remains were not recovered at the time. Through the work of the Defense Department of Defense, the remains of Sgt. 1st Class Chaney were accounted for in 2015. His name is permanently inscribed in the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
