Corporal Ames was a medic with the Medical Company, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while tending his wounded comrades on November 2, 1950 north of Unsan, North Korea and died in a prison camp on December 31, 1950 from malnutrition and frozen lower extremities. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
