Corporal Hanson was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On October 14, 1951, his platoon was assaulting a hill near Songhyon-ni, North Korea. He singlehandedly assaulted an enemy machine gun emplacement and destroyed the emplacement and killed the occupants, before he was fatally wounded. |
