First Lieutenant Blakelock was a platoon leader with Company A, 8th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. On October 19, 1950, while leading his platoon on an advance toward Pyongyang, North Korea, he captured 12 North Korean soldiers. Before he could disarm them, one killed him with an automatic gun. |
