Sergeant Winter was a medic with the Medical Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. While attacking enemy positions at Heartbreak Ridge near Hagamnyoug, North Korea on September 13, 1951, his unit came under heavy enemy fire. He courageously exposed himself to this fire to aid of his wounded comrades and was mortally wounded himself. |
