Corporal Williams had completed his tour in Korea and was returning to the Unites States on the transport Aiken Victory, when he was diagnosed as having poliomyelitis and needed a respirator. The Coast Guard flew 871 miles from San Francisco and parachuted a respirator in two waterproof packages. On August 27, 1951, he died. |
