Boatswain's Mate Third Class Sawyers was a crew member of the attack transport USS UNION (AKA-106). He was listed as Missing in Action in Korea on March 26, 1952 and presumed dead. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
