Lieutenant Junior Grade Shook was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 144 (884) aboard the carrier USS KEARSARGE (CVA-33). On September 30, 1952, while making a strafing run against enemy troops near Songjin, North Korean, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire, rolled over and crashed into the water. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
