Lieutenant Wells was the squadron maintenance officer and a crew member of a PBM-5S Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 892, based at Naval Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. On August 8, 1952, the plane crashed into a mountain in Japan from unknown causes, killing 14 crewmen. |
