Major Betzer was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with the Marine Fighter Squadron 312, Marine Air Group 12 aboard the USS BATAAN (CVL-29). On May 2, 1953, while on a combat mission over North Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed about 25 miles southeast of Haeju North, Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
