Private First Class Collins was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On November 29, 1950, he became separated from his unit at the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea and was surrounded by enemy forces. He was listed as Killed in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
