Corporal Abrell was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. On June 10, 1951, as a fire team leader, he was attacking a heavily fortified enemy position near Hangyong, Korea. When the advanced squad became pinned down, he voluntarily, singlehandedly attacked an enemy bunker. Although badly wounded he armed a grenade and dove into the bunker, killing himself and the enemy within. |
