Major McDonough was the pilot of a RB-45C Tornado reconnaissance bomber with Reconnaissance Detachment A, 84th Bomber Squadron, U.S. Air Force. On December 4, 1950, while on a reconnaissance mission over the Yalu River, his aircraft was shot down by Russian MiG-15s. He was taken Prisoner of War and died as a prisoner on December 31, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
