Captain Spath was the pilot of a F-86A Sabre Jet fighter interceptor with the 335th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group. On February 3, 1952, while on a combat mission over Sinanju, Korea, his flight of four encountered a large group of MiG-15's. His engine was damaged and the plane caught fire. He parachuted to safety and was taken Prisoner of War. He was presumed dead on March 31, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
