First Lieutenant Strope was a decorated pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber during World War II, serving in Europe. In Korea, he was the co-pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 729th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. On September 29, 1951, while on a night intruder mission with a searchlight, contact with the aircraft was lost. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 10, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
