First Lieutenant Ruhland was the co-pilot of a B-29 Superfortress Bomber with the 582nd Air Rescue Squadron, 582nd Air Rescue Wing, based at Great Falls Air Force Base, Montana. On May 14, 1953, he was enroute to Lake Charles Air Force Base, Louisiana on a routine training flight. The aircraft crashed about eight miles from Sargent, Nebraska killing nine personnel. |
