Remembering the 70th Anniversary of D-Day

June 6, 2014 marks the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings along the Normandy Coast. Hear ABMC Secretary Max Cleland reflect on this historical event.

Video Transcript:

ABMC SECRETARY, MAX CLELAND:  Our country had young men on that day, D-Day, June 6, 1944 that put themselves out in front of entrenched guns, machine guns that mowed
them down by the dozens as they got off the Higgins boats and landing at bloody Omaha Beach on D-Day. The Army Rangers that stormed Pointe du Hoc, that day, that success on D-Day meant that the war was over for the Germans, that meant that America could prosecute the war with its Allies and ultimately end World War II in Europe. And so every American ought to stand there at Normandy or go visit our website and see information about the Normandy invasion and our cemetery at Normandy to really get the full impact of what it means to be an American because those people paid the ultimate price for us to be able to do what we do.
