First Lieutenant Abercrombie was a member of the 39th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 35th Fighter-Interceptor Group. He was listed as Missing in Action during a mission on November 1, 1950. He was presumed dead on October 22, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
