Second Lieutenant Ahlmeyer was a member of Company A, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. On May 10, 1967, while on patrol near Khe San and the Demilitarized Zone, he came under heavy enemy fire and was killed. His remains were recovered on May 27, 2003 and identified on November 22, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
