Sergeant Aki was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Headquarters Battery, 555th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was Taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy along the Pusan Perimeter near Pongam-ni, South Korea on August 12, 1950. He was presumed dead on February 23, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
