Private First Class Allen was a member of Headquarters Battery, 555th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was Killed in Action while defending the southwest sector of the Pusan Perimeter near Pongam-ni ("Bloody Gulch"), South Korea on August 12, 1950.
