First Lieutenant Allen was the pilot of an OE-1 Cessna observation aircraft with Headquarters Battery, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On January 18, 1953, while on a reconnaissance mission over western outposts is North Korea, his aircraft was shot down. One parachute was seen. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 4, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
