Major Allen was a member of the 559th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, South Vietnam. On July 31, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam. Upon diving into his target, his aircraft crashed into the ground. His remains were recovered on May 19, 1993 and identified on October 8, 1997. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
