Sergeant Alvarez was a Light Weapons Infantryman in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in North Korea on March 31, 1951 and returned to duty on April 16, 1951. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on June 5, 1951 and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
