Staff Sergeant Anderson was a member of the 601st Photographic Flight. On January 28, 1970, he was a passenger in a Sikorsky Sea Stallion Search and Rescue Helicopter (HH-53B) trying to rescue two downed airmen about 20 miles northeast of Mu Gia Pass, Laos. The helicopter was hit by a MiG and exploded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
