Master Sergeant Anspach was a member of Detachment A-401, Company D, 5th Special Forces Group. On September 11, 1967, he departed camp near Hong Ngu in an airboat on a reconnaissance mission down the Mekong River and passes between Viet Cong bunkers on both sides of the river. In the intense weapons fire, Master Sergeant Anspach was killed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
