First Lieutenant Arnold was the pilot of a AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft with the6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron, 6147th Tactical Air Control Group. On July 6, 1951, while flying an air-ground control mission, his aircraft ran into bad weather and crashed five miles northeast of K-6 Airfield. His remains were recovered.
