Private First Class Asher was a member of Company H, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting hand to hand with the enemy at Combat Outpost "Frisco" in North Korea on October 7, 1952 and died in a prison camp on November 16, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
