Staff Sergeant Ashlock was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On May 12, 1967, he was Killed in Action when his unit was overrun in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
