Colonel Asire was a member of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 8, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on an operational mission from Takhli Airfield, Thailand over Hos Binh Province, North Vietnam. He engaged an enemy aircraft and contact was lost. His remains were recovered on June 21, 1989 and identified on August 25, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
