Corporal Atkin was a member of the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in South Korea on September 2, 1950 and returned to duty on October 7, 1950. He was Killed in Action while crossing the Han River, in South Korea on March 9, 1951.
