Second Lieutenant Babson commanded a platoon in Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On October 26, 1952, he was defending an outpost 600 yards forward of the main line of resistance in Korea. Although badly wounded, he refused evacuation and continued to lead his men until he was mortally wounded.
