Private First Class Baccari was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On December 8, 1950, his company was subjected to a savage attack by a numerically superior enemy force near Koto-ri, North Korea. He voluntarily left his covered position to carry his wounded comrades to a protected area. He continued to search for and evacuate casualties in sub-zero weather until he was mortally wounded.
