Sergeant Back was a member of Headquarters Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on July 17, 1952 and returned to duty on August 11, 1952. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting in North Korea on February 12, 1953 and was presumed dead on February 13, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
