First Lieutenant Baker was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Infantry Division. On March 7, 1953, he was flying an observation mission over enemy lines in North Korea near the Imjin River, when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on March 8, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
