John Frederick Balschun was an American born in New York City on June 8, 1876. He married Mamie Eck in New York City in 1908. She died on November 23, 1948. He married Maria Mercedes Arauz and they moved moved to the Canal Zone where he worked for the U.S. Army until retirement. He died on July 20, 1952 and is buried at Corozal American Cemetery with his wife, Maria, and son, John Frederick Balschun., Jr.
