Private First Class Barker was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. On June 4, 1953, he was a member of a patrol near Sokkogae, North Korea. He laid down covering fire to permit his patrol to withdraw. He delivered devastating fire and was last seen engaged in hand to hand fighting with the enemy. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 5, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
