Second Lieutenant Barnett was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy on Hill 303 near Waegwan, South Korea on September 4, 1950 and died of those wounds on September 21, 1950.
