Corporal Barth was a member of Battery C, 235th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, U.S. Army. He was listed as Missing in Action while serving in an observation post near Sok Chang-Ni, North Korea, that had been subjected to heavy mortar and artillery fire. Later, it was determined he had been Killed in Action on June 11, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
