Master Sergeant Baxter was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 2, 1st Marine Air Wing. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy by small arms fire, during an enemy night counter-attack at Hagaru-ri, Chosin Reservoir, North Korea on November 28, 1950.
